Windows 7 64bit runs on vmware – Native x86 application test

Today we made a test on a Windows 7 64bit, on a vmware server 2.0 running on ubuntu.
It fully function well, Windows 7, i need to spend some good word about that, if you think about upgrading XP to Win7 is a good idea.
Boot speed is really good, the graphical interface is fast and the Security system is really well improved.
About the back compatibility we have tried to run our product maded with old Delphi 7, native application that runs on x86 machine and we don’t have any problem at the moment.
We have also tried to run our product “ShareTeam Console” and it funciton very well as you can see on the picture attaced.
Trying IE 8.0 on this system i found it very fast between a previous version that i have tried on XP system, we have tested our RIA application on it and is really fast.
At the moment the fastest browser that we found on our ShareTeam Web Interface is Opera 10.0, but now with this version of IE is quite good.

Oggi abbiamo provato Windows 7 a 64Bit, installandolo su una macchia virtuale vmware server 2.0, che sta girando su ubuntu 9.04.
Tutto è funzionato al primo colpo bene, su Windows 7 devo spendere qualche parola di apprezzamento, ora posso dire che se si dovesse pensare di aggiornare un systema XP con Win7 a 64bit potrebbe essere una buona idea, soprattutto se si dispone di oltre 4gbytes di RAM , alemno la sfruttate.
La velocità di boot sembra veramente buona, è migliorato anche molto tutto il sottostema di sicurezza e il Windows Firewall sembra proprio assomigliare a qualcosa di professionale, anche se questo potrebbe comportare qualche difficoltà se non si ha molta esperienza in questo senso.
In merito alla compatibilità con il vecchio abbiamo provato un ns prodotto “ShareTeam Win Console” sviluppato con Delphi 7, che produce eseguibilil a x86 nativi a 32bit e non abbiamo avuto alcun problema ne in fase di installazione ne di esecuzione.
Provando anche il browser fornito con il sistema sono rimasto felicemente impressionato, precedentemente avevo provato IE 8.0 su un sistema XP a 32bit e risultava pesantissimo e lento soprattutto nell’eseguire delle applicazioni RIA che richiedono uno sforzo JavaScript notevole. Attualmente con questa versione di IE 8.0 fornita con MS Windows 7 abbiamo provato la nostra RIA “ShareTeam Web Planner” e la fruizione ne è risultata molto fluida.
Al momento il browser più veloce (dal punto di vista di interpretazione del JavaScript/AJAX) con la ns applicazione è stato Opera 10.0 che ha superato in performance anche Firefox 3.5 sul mio sistema.
Nel complesso Windows 7 a 64Bit mi è sembrato un valido prodotto, dobbiamo ancora testarlo con le applicazioni Java confidando che con DotNet funzioni egregiamente.
